What is SEO and Why is it Important?
You’ve probably heard your digital marketing company mention the word “SEO” quite a lot. Out of all the digital marketing acronyms (and there are a few) this is probably the most important one. But what is SEO and why is it important for your business? Take a look at how we unpack and explain SEO in its simplest form.
What is SEO?
The term SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization”. Simply put, SEO is a way of optimising your website (and content) to help Google understand what your website is about. The better Google understands your website relevance/content, the more likely it is to show your pages in results for a relevant search.
SEO as Visibility Driver
A solid SEO foundation can help increase your site’s visibility in search engine results pages (or SERP’s; those pesky acronyms) leading to more people seeing your website or content when they search for something specific. Strong SEO helps search engines find you and eventually show their searchers your content in a search result.
SEO as Ranking Driver
The better executed your SEO strategy is, the better SERP’s know where to place your content in their results. (You can read more about rankings here).
The Takeout
Aside from for rankings and visibility, developing an SEO strategy can also help you to position your brand in almost every stage of the buyer’s journey. If you know what people are searching for, you can offer them a product or service that is exactly matched to their needs. Modern day buyers use Search Engines (e.g. Google) as their first port of call when searching for something specific, meaning that your site, product and/or content must appear in their search results for them to notice or consider you.
